See it and experience it.

Through my research and education, I aim to improve visitor experiences by inspiring users to live more thoughtful and intentional lives.

I am currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Environment and Geography, at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

As an interdisciplinary researcher and educator, my interests are primarily focused on understanding learning and behaviour change in environmental education.

Mitacs Research with the Beaver Hills Biosphere, Alberta

The goal of this research was to build on previous environmental education action-based research, taking a pragmatic approach to develop and test environmental education programming.

The key objectives were to:

1. Determine what learning and action-related outcomes are most needed for interpretation programs in the Beaver Hills Biosphere. (e.g. teaching visitors how to interact with wildlife; support native pollinators, etc.)

2. Examine what types of environmental education materials are the most effective for facilitating learning about environmental issues and encouraging sustainable behaviour changes for visitors to the Beaver Hills Biosphere.

3. To develop on-site and post-visit engagement materials designed to help the Beaver Hills Biosphere visitors alter their actions to become more environmentally sustainable.

This short video highlights key findings from the study.

Learning and Polar Bear Tourism

Polar bear tourism in Manitoba, Canada offers a glimpse of what is possible when visitor experiences are linked with visitor education.

This short film, produced through a joint partnership with the Assiniboine Park Zoo, Frontiers North Adventure Company, and Handcraft Creative, highlights the findings from my doctoral research.
